Even today as we as a society have advanced in technology that far surpasses the dinosaur and wagon wheel, discrimination still exists.  The usual discrimination today is race, age, gender, sexual orientation and social class, but the newest can to kick around is your weight and body image.  In the days we are able to save someone’s life with an artificial heart, there are people who make fat jokes and look at people of size in disgust that they are even in the same vicinity.

For BBW and dating partners, this is a very real concept they would rather do without.  Can you imagine being in a very romantic setting sharing a sinful chocolate treat and some rude patron points at your date and states a negative and loudly announced opinion? After she picked something sexy and fun to wear on your date, and probably took hours making sure she look absolutely gorgeous before meeting up with you, you see tears well up in her eyes.  How would that make anyone feel to be the brunt of some nasty joke?  People on dates are on the date to spend quality time with each other, not to suffer the puns of someone’s ridicule.

At amusement parks there are rides that are not plus size friendly with weight restrictions and the size of many of the rides can not accommodate bigger sizes.  People that operate the rides may discourage because of larger people’s size in a nice way, while others may cause a scene.  Still there’s the other people in line that may be whispering and causing embarrassment on the date. The discrimination faced by BBW and dating is still out there.  Situations vary, but a lot of these women have learned that they only way to enjoy the same pleasures of average sized people is to just go out and have fun, regardless of what jokes are made at their expense.

There are organizations that are fighting for equality and human rights that focus solely on the size factor.  Plus sized women should never feel that it is better to stay out of sight than venture out and have a good time.  There are steps to complaints that can be voiced if a discrimination or harassment has occurred.   After all, in the word discrimination there is the root word of criminal.  It is illegal to harass and discriminate even against people of greater size.

BBW already must take extra steps in buying clothing and shoes that fit their body types, and not fit into the stereotypical “fat girl” niche.  BBW and dating is a freedom they deserve to enjoy without stares no matter how sly or comments made in hushed tones about their size.  Even if these women have a couple of extra pounds or if they are truly plus sized, they are normal and not part of a sideshow.  Only by acceptance of all people despite their difference will balance out equality.
